    DIETS AND FRUITS THAT HELP IN PREVENTION OF LUNG CANCER






    Lung cancer still remain the top killer among men and women globally. Recent discovery shows that women double the rate in lung cancer death, because they start smoking at a younger age compared to men. From 2008 to 2010, scientists proofs that about 85% of lung cancer is cause by smoking and  about 15% is from non- smoking. Diets , lifestyle and environmental factors play a vital role . Methods of removing lung cancers are  CT scan, MRI,  biopsy and chest x-ray . All this depend on the various location of the cancer and its symptoms. At the early stage of lung cancer, it can be remove through surgery as far as the tumor does not spread to other organs of the body and there is enough lung  tissue remaining for breathing  after surgery. If the cancer has stay long in the system, combination therapy can be used , like chemotherapy  and Radiotherapy. Whatever kind of treatment given to patient, pain management is the top priority  in  treatment of lung cancer. This is where diets and fruits comes in , since it help in reducing the pains. Lung cancer diets is a complete sets of foods that contain high anti-oxidants and vitamins like vitamin E , Omega 3 , vitamin C , omega 6 and vitamin D etc. Here is the breakdown of diet and fruits that prevent lung cancer
          

     VITAMIN C :
     Vitamin c is the bedrock of any antioxidants power that is why US government recommended to chain smokers that they should consume 35mg of vitamin c  more than the recommended daily allowance { RDA}  so that it can offset the oxidizing effect of smoking. Lung cancer patient should eat enough fruits and vegetables that are highly rich in vitamin c. fruits like cabbage, collard green, orange, grapefruit, lemon, broccoli , guavas  and water melon are all contain high content of vitamin c .     

    RASPBERRIES:
    Raspberry contain an acidic substance known as ellagic acid.  It stop the binding of carcinogen to DNA and also strengthens all the tissues that connect to it, and further prevent cancer cells from spreading. Ellagic acid is the major cause of apoptosis or cancer cells death The following facts proved that ellagic acid found in raspberry  stop the growth of tumors , cause G- arrest and contributed immensely to the health and growth of human being.
    * The Hollings Cancer Institute at the University of South Carolina has conducted a double blind study on a group of 500 cervical cancer patients that had everyone excited. Nine years of study have shown that a natural product called Ellagic acid is causing G-arrest within 48 hours (inhibiting and stopping mitosis-cancer cell division), and apoptosis (normal cell death) within 72 hours, for breast, pancreas, esophageal, skin, colon and prostate cancer cells.

    *European medical studies also demonstrate that Ellagic Acid is known to lower the incidence of birth defects, promote wound healing, reduce heart disease, and may reduce or reverse chemically induced liver fibrosis.

    *Rats that consumed 5-10 percent of their diet as freeze-dried black raspberries and strawberries showed dramatic reductions in the growth of precancerous cells and tumor progression, the researchers found. And in other animal tests, Stoner told Reuters Health, the berries reduced colon cancer growth by 80 percent. The Ohio Department of Agriculture supported the research Stoner presented at the meeting.

    MUSHROOM:
    For decades, mushrooms have been a medicinal value to man, pharmaceutical agencies have show much interest about the medicinal  value of mushroom in the last decade ever since they discovered it. The medicinal value are as follow:
    anti- tumor, anti- allergic, nephroprotective, anti-oxidant , anti-diabetes, immunomodulatory,  anti- microbial agents and hypocholesterolemic . The mushrooms that belong to the following families help in prevention of lung cancer:  Suillus,  Clitocybe,  Antrodia,  Agaricus,  Trametes,  Genus  Phellinus,  Pleurotus, Ganoderma, calvatia, flammulina, fulia, inonotus, inocybe, lactarius fomes, russula and xerocomus etc.
    The above mention anti cancer compounds performed different function in the war against cancer, from apoptosis angiogenesis inhibitor, oxygen species inducer, and cancer proliferation.


    CRUCIFEROUS VEGETABLES:
    Cruciferous veggies help in prevention of cancer in general. research conducted by National Cancer Institute shows that cruciferous veggies has the ability to kill cancer because of the glucocinolates that are in them - a sulphuric compounds. Glucocinolates take place during chewing and digestion process and split into biological compounds, that prevent cancer cell growth, chemically known as isothiocyanates, indoles and thiocyanates. Glucocnolates empower the liver to bring forth detoxifying enzymes that barricade free - radical attack on DNA.
    Other importance of glucocinolates are:
    * It help in the prevention of tumor formation and metastasis.
    * It made up of antibacterial and antiviral properties.
    * It reprogram cancer cells to die off.
    *Glucocinolates are anti-inflammatory.
    * Is an inactive carcinogens.
    Glucocinolates are richly found in the following cruciferous vegetables:
    *Cabbage, broccoli, watercress, collard green, kale, Brussel sprout, mustard green, arugula, turnip, cauliflower, bok Choy and radish.
